Review of Joby Gorillapod SLR Zoom

The Gorillapod Family I have been having fun lately testing out the interestingly named Joby Gorillapod and have a review of this photographic accessory published today on the site. You can go directly to the review from here or access it from the reviews page. The Gorillapod is a bendable, flexible tripod that secures your camera to nearly any surface. Its legs bend and rotate 360 degrees, while its rubbery feet provide extra gripping power. You can wrap the Gorillapod around a tree branch, hang it from a railing or perch it on a rock during your next hiking trip… read the full review here…

Stephanie Hardy at the Evergreen

(View gallery) Many who come to the Evergreen are seasoned performers who are well known to the audience. There are others, like Stephanie Hardy, who are new to us and bring with them the excitement of discovery.Stephanie Hardy at the Evergreen Theatre
Stephanie’s concert at the Evergreen was just such an exciting event. This young singer songwriter from Cape Breton has played alongside, with and performed for an impressive list of artists including the Dixie Chicks, George Canyon, Gordie Sampson and J.P.Cormier and when we heard her sing, we understood why.

When Stephanie played ‘unplugged’ before the Evergreen audience on Saturday night, she said that it felt just like a Cape Breton Kitchen Party. Her strong, melodious voice filled the venue as she sang a range of songs from her CD “Brand New Skin”. The photo gallery of her performance is now online and features a track from this CD entitled “Sweet Sorrow”.

Thanks so much for this great evening, Stephanie. We really look forward to seeing you back here again soon!

Blue Engine String Quartet – Songs of Leonard Cohen

(View gallery)What a wonderful performance we were treated to at the Evergreen Theatre last Saturday, May 12th! The Blue Engine String Quartet along with Cliff Le Jeune and Paul Simons performed their “Songs of Leonard Cohen”.
Cliff LeJeune playing with the Blue Engine String Quartet at the Evergreen Theatre

Once again the Evergreen had an appreciative capacity audience to see the show.* Cliff Le Jenue’s powerful presentation of these classic songs of beloved Canadian singer/songwriter Leonard Cohen was beautifully complemented by the exquisite strings of the Blue Engine String Quartet and sensitive keyboard accompaniment of Paul Simons. The acoustics of the venue were perfect for this performance as, with no amplification, the rich sound filled the space and every word and breathy whisper was heard by all. I found this to be a very moving performance, as, although Le Jeune says that he is not a singer, but an actor, his voice and beautifully choreographed movements brought us a new appreciation for this venerable material.

You can view the gallery now online in our Evergreen Theatre 2007 tab. The gallery also features a track entitled “Tower of Song” from their CD “If It Be Your Will…Songs of Leonard Cohen”

Thank you all for a memorable evening!

*NB. A word to the wise – sell-out performances are becoming almost the ‘norm’ at the Evergreen, so if you plan to attend concerts there, be sure to book your tickets well in advance.
