Ross Creek Centre for the Arts goes Black and White…

Dining Area at the Ross Creek Centre for the Arts Black and White fundraising event
Saturday night the 14th of April saw the second annual fundraising event at the Ross Creek Centre for the Arts in Canning, Nova Scotia – Black and White: The Sequel – and we were proud to be there to document it. The photo gallery of this exciting event (with a music track by Steve Dooks to evoke the mood of the evening) is to be seen by clicking on the Events tab. Ross Creek is a valuable asset to our community and Province, an education and development centre for the arts based in rural Nova Scotia. This fundraising dinner and art auction was well supported by artists and local businesses who made wonderful donations for the auction as well as by those who bought tickets to attend and bid on these. All the funds raised at this event will be used for “The Odyssey”, an exciting outdoor performance to take place at the Centre, adapted by Rick Chafe from the ancient Greek epic poem by Homer. This is “one of the most exciting projects in our history”. This will be featured at Ross Creek this summer, so stay tuned to the Centre’s website for further information.

The evening was based on a theme “Black and White” and the feel was of the forties, with Black and White movies playing all night in the main hall accompanied by Steve Dooks on Piano and the voice of Toni Pigot. After the auction and dinner, the party moved into the dimly lit Commodore Ballroom where dessert, tea and coffee and the Steve Dooks band awaited. The meal was prepared by Jeff, the Chef from On the Verge in Wolfville.

An unforgettable evening and we hope you will get a feel of it from the gallery.

Charlie A’Court and David Myles – Music Nova Scotia “Bringin’ It Home”!

Last Thursday night, April 12th, the packed audience at the Evergreen Theatre in Margaretsville was treated to two outstanding performances, thanks to the wonderful ‘Bringin’ It Home’ program sponsored by Music Nova Scotia.
David Myles' performing at the Evergreen Theatre

(David Myles’ gallery) David Myles, recent winner of the the 2006 International Songwriting Competition in the Folk Singer-Songwriter category, opened the evening, accompanied by Kyle Cunjak on Double Bass. The wonderful acoustics of this venue did full justice to David’s performance, including his hauntingly beautiful ‘Take Your Bow’ and when he began to sing what has almost become a signature tune – his award winning ‘When it Comes My Turn’ the audience almost drowned him out, bringing a broad smile to David’s face. The photo gallery of his performance is now live on the Evergreen Theatre 2007 page (on the second screen) , accompanied by a track ‘Last Night’ from his latest CD ‘Things Have Changed’ . Thank you for an outstanding performance, David, which made this night an unforgettable one. I hope we see you back at the Evergreen very soon again!

Charlie A'Court' performing at the Evergreen Theatre

(Charlie’s gallery) The teaser of the guitar with Charlie cross-stitched on the strap (by his mother) now leads us to our second exciting performance of the evening. Charlie A’Court, accompanied by a 4 piece band and backup singer gave a performance that quite literally almost did ‘Bring On the Storm’! Charlie whose latest CD ‘Bring on the Storm’ was winner of the ECMA 2007 Pop Recording of the Year Award was backed by Carl Laudadio on Bass Guitar, Keith Mullins on drums, Kim Dunnit on Keyboards, Jason Mingo on Guitar and Meaghan Smith on vocals. From the rocking performance of the title track of that CD (which you can hear on his photo gallery on this site) to his moving rendition of Willie Nelson’s ‘Heartache of a Fool’, Charlie’s set was phenomenal and will no doubt be remembered for a long time to come by all who were fortunate enough to be in attendance. Thanks to Charlie and all the band!

Our thanks again go to Music Nova Scotia for bringng such outstanding performances to the rural areas of Nova Scotia in their ‘Bringin’ it Home’ program.

Charlie??

Charlie A'Court's guitar on stage at the Evergreen Theatre

It’s midnight and we just got back from an incredible double performance sponsored by Music Nova Scotia. The galleries (with music!) will be online in a day or so, so keep your eyes peeled. Small clue as to one of the performers in this shot of the stage.
