Joel Miller and Amelia McMahon – Jazz (East) Margaretsville

Jazz at the Evergreen Theatre featuring the Joel Miller band was a double pleasure. First of all the music was outstanding as was expected of a group of this calibre and second, the band featured vocalist Amelia McMahon whose roots are buried deep in the local area and some of whose earliest singing performances were at Fundy Folk (an earlier incarnation of the Evergreen Theatre). View the photo gallery here or read more below.

The talented Joel Miller was also accompanied by Greg Amirault on guitar, Fraser Hollins on acoustic bass and Martin Auguste on drums.

100% Melanie Doane + 100% Evergreen – “You do the Math”!

Juno award winning Melanie Doane is one of those acts that prompts the question “How do you get such great acts at the Evergreen Theatre?” Our audiences have come to expect excellence from each performer in their particular genres and Melanie Doane, accompanied by the talented Mike Borkowski on guitar was a real crowd pleaser. View the photo gallery here or read more below.

Melanie Doane

This talented singer songwriter who has had her music featured on such TV shows as “Being Erica” has a new CD out, “1000 Nights” which in some of the tracks takes old familiar material and lets us hear it from a new perspective – that of a parent – with a sense of responsibility and special tenderness. Some of the songs she played were beautiful renditions of “Songbird”, (the track that is featured over her photo gallery on this site) and “Devoted to You”. Some other favourites of mine were her own compositions “First Love”, “You Do the Math” and “Waiting for the Tide to Turn” .

Melanie is a renowned multi-instrumentalist and during her performance she played guitar, bass guitar, banjo, violin, electric violin and keyboards, slipping with apparent ease from one to the next. The photo gallery of this performance can be viewed here.

Thanks for a great night, Melanie.
