Kevin Fox – Songs for Cello and Voice – Superlative Musicianship

There is one word to describe Kevin Fox’s concert at the Evergreen Theatre – amazing! Kevin is truly a musician’s musician, who also keeps an audience spellbound with the beauty of his performance. At his concert where he played cello and guitar in pieces from both of his CD’s (which we can’t stop playing now) Kevin offered us at the Evergreen a performance of a quality that is a rare and beautiful thing. I had intended to write so much more but I don’t have the time and it’s really not necessary. The best thing is to see the photo gallery of images of the performance here and listen to a beautiful piece of Kevin’s – “My One and Only” from his latest CD “Songs for Cello and Voice” playing over the images and judge for yourself. This piece gave me chills down my spine when he performed it at the show.

Ensemble Polaris – A Musique Royale Presentation

Ensemble Polaris brings together a group of talented and experienced musicians from a wide array of backgrounds in their journey of exploration of the music of the North. Sharing this unusual and exciting journey with them on that lovely evening in Middleton took us through a repertoire of music from Scandinavia, the Baltic countries, Scotland and Canada. View the photo gallery here or read more below.

This was an absolutely delightful concert of the highest calibre brought to us courtesy of Musique Royale. One of the wonderful things about it was that it was offered absolutely free to whomever wanted to experience a performance of this quality. The audience, comprised of music lovers of all ages was truly appreciative of this opportunity and filled the venue. There were many special moments, one most memorable where a small child was needed to teach Kirk Elliott how to play the violin (see the images on the gallery). I must say, he learnt quickly, catching on as soon as she told him to ‘Stick the black bit under your chin!’. No doubt this has advanced his career beyond measure! The photo gallery of this performance can be viewed here with the track “Polska Efter Byss-Calle” from their CD “Vikings on Vacation” playing over the images.

This was a wonderful evening. The musicians were Terry McKenna (guitar); Ben Grossman (hurdy-gurdy, jaw harp); Margaret Gay (cello); Jeffrey Wilson (percussion); Katherine Hill (voice, nyckelharpa); Kirk Elliott (violin, harp, agpipes, psaltery, accordion); Alison Melville (flutes, recorders, seljefløte); Colin Savage (clarinet, bass clarinet, recorders); Thanks to all of the musicians, the folks at the Evergreen and to Musique Royale for bringing us this concert. Stan Carew and the Magpies fundraising for Companion Animal Protection Society

Stan Carew, popular CBC Radio 1 Weekend Mornings host is getting quite a reputation! He and his band the Magpies travel around the Maritimes playing their music and entertaining audiences to help raise funds to support worthy causes. On this occasion the Companion Animal Protection Society was the cause and the volunteers from this organization brought slideshows, images and information on animals needing good homes as well as information on the work they do in the community that they showed and discussed before and after the show and during intermission. View the photo gallery here or read more below.

The Magpies were Stan, Steve Brown and Richard King on guitars and Eric Jones on bass. As always, Stan’s quick wit amusing anecdotes and rocking sounds kept the full house laughing and entertained while they supported this excellent organization. The Evergreen Theatre was happy to provide the venue and support for this fundraising effort that was enjoyed by all. The photo gallery of this performance can be viewed here with the track “Hot to the Touch” from Stan’s latest CD “Circle the Wagons” playing over the images.

Thanks for another fun performance at the Evergreen, Stan, Steve, Richard and Eric.
