Welcome to Canada's most extensive image library of live performance photographs.

Light at the End of the Tunnel

I thought it had only been a couple of weeks since my last posting, but on looking I am horrified to see that it has been a month.Lacey Sputnic Box I’ve had my head down finishing the turning project which is almost over now. Another day’s work should wrap it up. With the exception of the two pieces I’m finishing off at the moment, everything is photographed. One of the pieces you can see here. Although it’s been an intense and enjoyable project I’m somewhat pleased that it’s finished at last as winter has finally arrived here and the cold weather and snowfall are making things really beautiful. The urge to get out and photograph and enjoy it is making me very impatient. As soon as the website is updated with all the completed new work, I’ll post the link to it. It will be on my Woodturning site.

Winter in Nova Scotia

I mentioned in the previous posting about how I was looking forward to getting back to photographing the Nova Scotia winter. Even if I had the time at the moment we certainly don’t have any winter. Today was +15 C! (see the weather in the left column). No ice and no snow, obviously. Global warming really is having dire effects on our climate. However, it was similar to this last year until about February when we did at least get a few weeks of cold weather.

Kejimkujik Lake, Winter 2006

This is a shot of Kejimkujik Lake last February (2006) when it was -14 C and absolutely beautiful. The wind was blowing the snow across the ice and the sun backlit the islands. Maybe I’ll get some of these beautiful shooting conditions in the next few weeks. – Steve

Slow times / Busy times!

Things are a little slow photographically just at the moment. But apart from being a photographer, I am also a wood turner – my focus is on decorative sculptural boxes. You can see some of this work on my other site: Steven Kennard Woodturner. The desire to be out shooting is overwhelming at the moment but my commitment to producing some new turned pieces for an upcoming book is taking every moment of my time. Another couple of weeks should have most of the work over with, then I will have the fun of photographing all of the boxes. there is lots of new stuff, textures, wood colour etc, so that will be something to look forward to.

I am really looking forward to shooting ice and snow again, but we don”t have either at the moment, very strange for this time of the year, so hopefully another two to three weeks should give us what I’m wanting. We will see!
