World class bajan player Alexander Sevastian at the Evergreen
The Evergreen Theatre has a well-deserved reputation for presenting world class performers in a wide diversity of genres. Alexander Sevastian, world class bajan (accordion) player is an example of such a performer. He is three time first prize winner of the International Accordion Competition and others too numerous to mention. He has performed in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Tokyo, Yokohama, New York… and now at the Evergreen Theatre in Margaretsville, Nova Scotia! The classical concert program included material by Bach, Scarlatti, Mendelssohn/Rachmaninoff and many others and gave us all in the audience an exhilarating and uplifting night. The pieces performed on that night by Alexander on his wonderful instrument had us almost looking around to find out where the pipe organ was. On the photo gallery of the performance you will hear the beautiful piece “Scherzo from a Midsummer Night’s Dream Suite” from a Rachmaninoff piano transcription of Mendelssohn’s composition, taken from Sevastian’s CD entitled A Midsummer Night’s Dream (and used by kind permission).
