First Evergreen show of the season – Old Man Luedecke – full house!
The start of the Evergreen Theatre season is one of the first signs of Spring and accompanied by just as much excitement. This year the opening show featured Old Man Luedecke who is a winning performer, both of awards and of hearts and sold out very quickly. Here is the link to the Old Man Luedecke image gallery with a track entitled “My Love Comes Stepping up the Stairs” from his Juno nominated album “My Hands are on Fire” playing over it. Read on for my take on the show.
Chris Luedecke at the Evergreen Theatre
This show was a terrific opener for the 2011 season. Old Man Luedecke has been nominee and winner of Juno Award(s) and an Indie music award. He lives his life accompanied by music and a banjo, which we all got a chance to share in on that night. His humour is contagious and he brings a great sense of joy as he examines aspects of life we have all experienced in such songs as ‘At the Airport’ and the song featured over the album, which is a personal favourite of mine. Always a popular performer, this down to earth singer songwriter with the hands on fire on his banjo and guitar was the perfect start to a very promising year of events.

Ashley Condon at the Evergreen Theatre
Ashley Condon was featured at the Canadian Deep Roots 2010 Music Festival and so we were very excited to be able to see her play at the Evergreen. This confident performer sang several tracks from her Music Nova Scotia award nominated CD “Come in From the Cold”, including Already Come, Baby Brown Eyes and A New Heart, as well as an animated version of The Neighbours ain’t Home. Her strong, clear and bright voice filled the venue and delighted the audience, many of whom were hearing her for the first time.
Old Man Luedecke and Ashley Condon gave us a wonderful start to what promises to be an excellent 2011 season at the Evergreen Theatre, thank you both so much!
