Blue Engine String Quartet – Songs of Leonard Cohen

(View gallery)What a wonderful performance we were treated to at the Evergreen Theatre last Saturday, May 12th! The Blue Engine String Quartet along with Cliff Le Jeune and Paul Simons performed their “Songs of Leonard Cohen”.

Once again the Evergreen had an appreciative capacity audience to see the show.* Cliff Le Jenue’s powerful presentation of these classic songs of beloved Canadian singer/songwriter Leonard Cohen was beautifully complemented by the exquisite strings of the Blue Engine String Quartet and sensitive keyboard accompaniment of Paul Simons. The acoustics of the venue were perfect for this performance as, with no amplification, the rich sound filled the space and every word and breathy whisper was heard by all. I found this to be a very moving performance, as, although Le Jeune says that he is not a singer, but an actor, his voice and beautifully choreographed movements brought us a new appreciation for this venerable material.

You can view the gallery now online in our Evergreen Theatre 2007 tab. The gallery also features a track entitled “Tower of Song” from their CD “If It Be Your Will…Songs of Leonard Cohen”

Thank you all for a memorable evening!

*NB. A word to the wise – sell-out performances are becoming almost the ‘norm’ at the Evergreen, so if you plan to attend concerts there, be sure to book your tickets well in advance.
